Welcome to the Language and Music Perception (LAMP) Lab at the University of San Diego!

Our lab takes an interdisciplinary approach to studying auditory perception. Our research encompasses cross-modal, music, and speech perception using a combination of behavioral, cognitive neuroscience, and computational modeling approaches.

Here's what we have been up to lately

 June 2023

Izzie was selected to participate in the McNair Scholars Summer Research Program, Ellis received a Summer Internship Award, and Denise is returning for summer 2 of the McNair Scholars program.

May 2023

Congrats to Alex and Sam for being awarded a Psychological Sciences Department award for “Outstanding Academic Achievement and Research” .

April 2023

Three groups of three students presented at USD’s Creative Collaborations Undergraduate Research Conference, and six of these students also presented their posters at the Western Psychological Association conference in Riverside, CA. *See Research page for photos

December 2022

Laura received a Faculty Research Grant for the 2023-2024 academic year titled: "Using electrophysiological evidence to understand bilingual speech perception".

 

June 2022

Sam received a Summer Internship Award to begin her honors thesis project in the lab this summer, and we have two new lab members joining us: Denise as a McNair scholar and Adriana with a PURE (Pre-Undergraduate Research Experience) fellowship.

May 2022

Congrats to Rhiannon for being awarded a Psychological Sciences Department award for “Outstanding Academic Achievement and Service” and Ted for being awarded an “Outstanding Academic Achievement and Research” award.

April 2022

The LAMB Lab was well-represented at USD's Creative Collaborations Undergraduate Research Conference, with 8 students presenting 6 different posters on lab projects. Ted, Michelle, and Rhiannon also presented posters at the Western Psychological Association conference in Portland, Oregon. *See Research page for photos

December 2021

Laura received a Faculty Research Grant for the 2022-2023 academic year titled: "Psychology and Music Connections".

November 2021

Ted and Michelle presented their projects at virtual APCAM 2021, and Laura presented a talk at APCAM on Jordaine's project and a poster at Psychonomics on Sara's project.

September 2021

The LAMP lab is full of new members and ready to collect data IN PERSON after an 18-month hiatus from campus!

May 2021

Congrats to Hannah for being awarded an “Outstanding Academic Achievement and Research” award.

March 2021

LAMP Lab members Ted and Michelle received Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) awards.

November 2020

COVID-19 kept us fully remote for Fall semester 2020, but didn't limit our productivity! Tara, Kunal, Hannah, and Jordaine presented their projects at virtual APCAM 2020 on November 19th.

August 2020

We survived a full summer of remote research! Kunal, Hannah, and Jordaine presented their summer projects at the "Virtual Summer Research Colloquium" on August 6th.

April 2020

COVID-19 may have forced us to move online for the remainder of the Spring 2020, but that hasn't stopped our awesome undergrad RAs from securing summer funding! Kunal has been selected to participate in the McNair Scholars Summer Research Program, and Hannah and Jordaine received Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) awards.

December 2019

Laura received a Faculty Research Grant for the 2020-2021 academic year titled: "Using electrophysiological evidence to understand the mechanisms of speech perception".

October 2019

Walls have been torn down and new carpet has been installed. With one computer in place, we are ready to start collecting data!

September 2019

The LAMP Lab is up and running with four inaugural research assistants joining the lab!
