Laura Getz. Laura (she/her) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience, Cognition & Behavior and Director of the Cognitive Science Program at the University of San Diego. She received a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Music from Elizabethtown College and an MA and PhD in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Virginia. Prior to coming to USD, she was a Mendel Science Experience Postdoctoral Fellow at Villanova University, where she was a member of the Word Recognition and Auditory Perception lab. Her big-picture goal is to investigate the importance of interactions to understanding auditory perception, including the interaction of bottom-up and top-down processing and interactions within and across sensory modalities.
Evonne Bergman
Evonne is a second-year student majoring in Behavioral Neuroscience and part of the Honors Program at USD. She aspires to pursue a career as a Surgical Physician Assistant, where she can combine her passion for human physiology, research, and assessable patient centered care. She loves creating flower bouquets, exploring San Diego, and staying active through volleyball and fitness. On campus, she is eager to get involved in research opportunities, service clubs, and the growing the new Neuroscience, Cognition, and Behavior department.
Julia Beskind
Julia is a third-year student in the Honors program at USD, majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Biology. She hopes to one day work in the medical field and has a special interest in Pediatrics. Outside of school, she loves to get outside, spend time with family and friends, do creative hobbies like paint or play piano, be active, and overall explore San Diego! On campus outside of working in the lab, Julia is in the Alpha Delta Epsilon pre-health honors society, an Honors ambassador, and in the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
Victoria Evans
Victoria is a fourth-year student majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Chemistry at USD. After graduation, she hopes to attend medical school and become a surgeon specializing in the removal of malignant brain tumors. Outside of the lab, she enjoys hot pilates, taking her dogs to the beach, spending time at Disneyland, and eating sushi. At USD, she stays involved through her Panhellenic sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, and as a member of the Neuroscience Club.
Romina Mallea
Romina is a senior majoring in Behavioral Neuroscience with minors in Chemistry and Spanish. After graduation, she plans to attend PA school and become a Pediatric Physician Assistant. Her research interests focus on speech perception in Spanish-English bilinguals, as she grew up speaking Spanish. Outside of the lab, she is a Scholastic Assistant for the LLC Cultivate. She also loves going to the beach, spending time with friends, and exploring various food spots in San Diego!
Cameron Moskovitz
Cameron is a sophomore at USD double majoring in Sociology and Neuroscience. She aspires to join the Peace Corps and conduct research on health disparities, combining her passion for social impact and scientific inquiry. On campus, she is a member of the Changemaker Hub and enjoys playing volleyball. Outside of academics, Cameron loves gardening, reading, surfing, and exploring San Diego. She is eager to engage in USD community events, volunteer, meet new people, and connect with others through meaningful experiences.
Ava Pres
Ava is a third-year Neuroscience major with a Music minor at USD. She hopes to pursue a career as a Nurse Practitioner or CRNA. This past year, she served as a College Corps fellow, tutoring math and science at the Academy of Our Lady of Peace, and she is a member of the pre-health honors society Alpha Epsilon Delta. Ava plans to earn her CNA
license this summer while getting involved in research. In her free time, she enjoys fly fishing, playing guitar and cello, crocheting, swimming, and exploring San Diego.
Aisha Toure
Aisha is a senior originally from Connecticut, majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Chemistry. After graduating from USD, she plans to pursue her goal of attending medical school. Her presence on campus is marked by her involvement as a student assistant in Undergraduate Admissions, her membership in Gamma Phi Beta sorority and her participation in the Aloha Epsilon Delta pre-health fraternity. Outside her lab work and academic commitments, Aisha enjoys reading, practicing yoga, and spending time with friends. She also loves playing the guitar and is a dedicated fan of sitcoms!
